Garage Door Tune-Up
You pulled the red cord to lift the door by hand during a power cut and it felt like lifting a car. The opener has been doing all the work and grumbling about it, and you are not sure how long that can go on.
Garage Door Tune-Up
In most homes in Craighurst the door between the garage and the kitchen is the least guarded one, so the garage door itself matters for security. We make sure it closes and locks fully, replace worn emergency-release cords, add a manual lock where wanted, and clear old codes from the opener. Nearby, we also work in Dalston, Horseshoe Valley, Martinville and Mount St. Louis.

Rollers, hinges, tracks, seals and the bottom rubber all wear at their own pace. We replace what is tired, adjust what has drifted, and leave the rest alone.

2021 census · what it means at the door
44%Homes of every age
About 44% of homes in Oro-Medonte were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
Where housing ages are mixed, many older houses have already had a newer door and opener fitted, so the door's age and the house's age are not the same thing. The technician reads the door itself, its spring type, tracks and opener, before recommending anything.
97%Mostly houses
Single-detached houses make up about 97% of homes in Oro-Medonte (2021 Census).
In a neighbourhood of houses, each garage door is chosen by the household, so styles vary from one driveway to the next. When it is time for a new door, homeowners pick panel design, windows, colour and insulation freely, and we bring samples to compare against the siding.

Garage Door Tune-UpSalt carried in on tires and shovelled snow settles on the lowest hardware: the bottom brackets, the lower track, the bottom roller stems and fixture bolts. Those are the parts that carry the door's weight, so corrosion there matters. Rinsing the lower hardware and the inside face of the bottom section after winter, keeping the floor by the tracks swept, and having the bottom brackets looked at each spring keeps salt from becoming a structural problem.
A door with one cable slack and the springs still pulling on the other side is being held by parts that are not sharing the load, and it can shift or drop without warning, whether or not anyone touches it, if the second cable lets go or a roller gives way. That is why the visit begins with clamps on the track and support under the sections, and why people, pets and vehicles stay clear of the opening until that support is in place.
The bottom section is where the lift cables attach, through the bottom brackets at each end, and those cables are under the full pull of the springs. Before the brackets come off, the springs have to be unwound or unhooked so the cables go slack. The bottom section also carries the seal retainer and astragal that meet the floor. After the new section is in, the springs are re-tensioned and the balance reset.
It closes one of their favourite routes. Mice enter at the open corners where the header and side seals meet and along a fin that has shrunk back from the door, so a continuous, overlapped seal removes those gaps. It works alongside a sound bottom seal, a swept threshold and attention to any other openings in the garage wall, and a technician will point out any of those noticed during the visit.
A glance each month from inside the garage, with the door closed, is enough to catch a bracket standing off the jamb or a hanger starting to lean. Twice a year, snug the bracket bolts and lag screws, wipe out the channel, and watch the door make a full trip to confirm every roller stays in the track. The industry guidance also suggests an annual visit by a trained door technician, who checks the track with the rest of the system.
